An export license is a critical authorization granted by a country to facilitate the international shipment of specific products, equipment, or goods. It is important to emphasize that not all products necessitate an export license. While some may be exempt, others strictly cannot be exported.

Wood licenses
Indonesian rosewood (aka « palisander », or « sonokeling » in Indonesian).
Wood’s lianaUlin (aka ironwood) is subject to special restrictions for export. We advise checking with us before purchase.
The wood license in Indonesia is known as the V-Legal. But this “V Legal Furniture” export license is the equivalent of the “FLEGT” (the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade).
Indonesian V Legal wood export certification

So, this single-use document confirms the legal origin of the wood. And it is accepted by all destination countries.
Important note: This license is drawn up for a said number of items. Hence, the quantity stated must exactly match the one loaded in the container.
There are four types of V-Legal: basic license (aka V-Legal “normal” or “biasa”), furniture, handicraft (decorative objects and accessories) and kitchen tools & frame.
V-Legal basic (normal/biasa)
V-Legal Documents are Indonesian export licences attesting legality. When the timber legality assurance system is fully working as described in the Indonesia-EU Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA), Indonesia will issue V-Legal Documents as FLEGT licences for timber bound for the EU.
Companies that comply with the timber legality assurance system (SVLK) need to attach a V-Legal Document to their consignments for export to any international market. The V-Legal Document specifies that the timber products being shipped comply with the legality and/or sustainability standard and the supply chain control requirements as stipulated in Indonesian regulations and the VPA. Thus the V-Legal Document provides assurance that timber or timber products are legal. V-Legal Documents are issued by bodies authorised by the Indonesian government to act as licensing authorities.
For products covered by the VPA, the FLEGT licence will replace the V-Legal Document for exports to the EU when Indonesia begins FLEGT licensing.
Decking & Flooring
Besides the “V Legal” license, the wooden decking/flooring must follow those conditions:
INTERIOR :
- the surface (width x length) by piece (or plank or board) cannot be superior to 40 cm²,
- the wood cannot be raw (it must be processed / profiled /planed).
EXTERIOR:
- the thickness by piece (or plank or board) cannot be superior to 3.5 cm,
- the width by piece (or plank or board) cannot be superior to 20 cm,
- any piece (or plank or board) needs to be grooved (4 mm) on the whole length.
Door & window frame
Besides the “V Legal” license, the door or window frames must follow those conditions:
- No size limit applies if it is assembled,
- If it is prefabricated (but not assembled), the maximal dimensions are: 3 cm thick and a 20 cm wide.
Wooden house, gazebo & bungalow
Besides the “V Legal” license, the wooden house, gazebo or bungalow are subject to the following conditions:
- Technical drawings and/or pictures will be required.
V-Legal furniture
Mandatory to export from Indonesia for: all furniture totally or partially made of wood.
Important note: If a single shipment involves items under the categories of both V-Legal basic and V-Legal furniture, this last one will not be necessary. Therefore, the V-Legal basic will regroup all items.
V-Legal handicraft
Not mandatory to export from Indonesia but might be to import in other countries.
Objects of decorations and accessories partially or totally made of wood.
Important note: as this license is not mandatory for Indonesian exports, RN Elements will deliver it on request (you will have to inquire as to its necessity with your freight-forwarder agent at destination).
V-Legal kitchen tools & frame
Not mandatory to export from Indonesia but might be to import in other countries.
All wooden kitchenware such as spoons, bowls, plates, picture frames, mirror frames, decorative frames…
